About

The Foundations of Reading (190) test for Arkansas assesses proficiency in and depth of understanding of the subject of reading and writing development. The test reflects scientifically based reading research.

Who Needs to Take the Test?

In accordance with the Right to Read Act, a person applying for a first-time license in Elementary Education (K–6) or Special Education (K–12) shall pass a stand-alone assessment on the essential components of the science of reading. The test version currently accepted for licensure in Arkansas is Foundations of Reading (190).

Computer-based test (CBT) and online proctored test; 100 multiple-choice questions, 2 written assignments

4 hours and 15 minutes total appointment time
  • 15 minutes for CBT tutorial and nondisclosure agreement
  • 4 hours testing time
Online Proctoring
4 hours and 30 minutes total appointment time
  • 15 minutes for tutorial and nondisclosure agreement
  • 2 hours 30 minutes for the multiple-choice questions
  • 15 minutes for optional break
  • 1 hour 30 minutes for the open-response assignments
